CBG 101

Are cannabinoids and CBD/CBG the same thing?

  • Copied!

It’s easy to understand why there’s so much confusion over cannabinoids, CBG and CBD. All of these things are closely related, but different.

Cannabinoids: A group of compounds naturally produced by the cannabis plant with studied therapeutic applications.

CBD (Cannabidiol): A well-known type of cannabinoid commonly produced by the plant species Cannabis Sativa L.

CBG (Cannabigerol): Another well-known type of cannabinoid. Often referred to as the ‘mother cannabinoid’ because cannabis and hemp plants (varieties of the same species) produce CBG first, which then gets converted into other cannabinoids like CBD.

It’s easy to understand why there’s so much confusion over cannabinoids, CBG and CBD. All of these things are closely related, but different. The key thing to remember is that CBD and CBG are types of cannabinoids.

CBD is undoubtedly the most prevalent and popular type of cannabinoid. Why? Because there is a large amount of this compound found in cannabis, which makes isolating CBD  for use in consumer products relatively straightforward.

CBG is as effective as CBD, but rarer. ‘Harvesting’ this cannabinoid is extremely costly and ultimately not profitable for most brands — despite the long list of CBG’s benefits.

Cellular Goods uses both CBD and CBG in our formulations. We are able to utilise the less common CBG because it is not harvested from plant matter, but instead engineered by a team of forward-thinking scientists.

What differentiates Cellular Goods is our inaugural skincare range, powered by CBG, perfected by biotechnology. Through our extensive research, development and testing, we harness the potential of biosynthetic CBG, creating effective and high quality cellular level solutions that upgrade your daily routine.
