CBD & CBG for skin: What to know

  • Copied!

Incorporating Cannabinoids into your skincare routine for the first time can be confusing. What should you do, in what order, and with which products? That’s why we asked Alexia Blake, Head of Research & Product Development at Cellular Goods, to share everything you need to know to utilise these powerful ingredients and get glowing, healthy skin.

Why are CBD & CBG good for your skin?

"CBG and CBD provide a range of benefits for skin thanks to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. These benefits include ageing prevention, anti-blemish and skin soothing. We've also discovered through our proprietary research that when combined with specific skincare actives, CBG can also help with skin brightening. As a result, we now have several patent-pending ingredient combinations with CBG as part of our benefit arsenal."

The best part? CBG and CBD can provide this wide range of benefits for many skin types without causing irritation, making them truly wonderful ingredients to include in any routine. Read our five A's of Cannabinoid Skincare whitepaper to learn more.

Can you use Cannabinoids with retinol?

"Cannabinoid work well with many other active ingredients, in fact, the anti-inflammatory properties of these ingredients mean they can help reduce or prevent irritation caused by strong actives, including retinoids. Our Rejuvenating Serum is a particularly good candidate for layering with retinol thanks to its skin-soothing CBG and barrier-friendly ingredients such as panthenol, glycerin and Sodium PCA."

When should I start using CBD and CBG skincare?

"It's never too late to start using cannabinoid skincare products, as the benefits provided by CBD and CBG are relevant for all ages. From our research, we've identified that CBD and CBG, alone and in specific combinations, can protect skin from the ageing effects of UV exposure and inflammation, which are known to accelerate the formation of wrinkles and other visible signs of skin ageing. Based on this research, we designed our Rejuvenating range of products to prevent common signs of ageing. These products also contain other skincare actives to address pre-existing signs of ageing, including wrinkles, to provide a 360 approach (prevention and treatment) to anti-ageing skincare."

Should I use Cannabinoids morning or night?

"We recommend using our products both morning and night, given the range of benefits provided, some of which are better suited to different times of the day. For example, applying CBD or CBG in the morning can help protect skin from the ageing effects of UV exposure and pollution because of their antioxidant properties.

On the flip side, the anti-inflammatory benefits of these ingredients make them excellent additions to a nighttime routine, especially one that involves irritating actives, as these cannabinoids can help soothe skin and mitigate inflammation.

Lastly, the antibacterial properties can enhance morning and evening skincare routines for those with blemish-prone skin. These are versatile ingredients that can elevate any skincare routine."

What skin types do CBD and CBG work for?

"From our testing, CBD and CBG appear to be suitable for all skin types. However, we always recommend patch testing before trying any new product or ingredient."
